The Quebec Nordiques were a hockey team formed in 1972 as part of the World Hockey Association. In 1979 they joined the National Hockey League where they qualified for playoffs nine out of sixteen seasons. Seven of these were sequential, from 1981-1987. In 1995 they were purchased and moved to Colorado, where they became the Colorado Avalanche.
