Kalamazoo, MI, started playing baseball (formerly Base Ball) as early as the late 1850s. The first team was formed around 1858. In 1905, a new team known as the Kalamazoo White Sox was created. They went through several name changes - the Kalamazoo Kazoos (1910), the Celery Pickers (1911), the Celery Champs (1912), and back to the Kazoos (1913). 1926 was the last year Kalamazoo played professionally for the men's league for close to 70 years, but baseball remained, and continues to remain, an important fixture.
